Movie in the Park returns to Tom Varn Park on Friday

A softball field at Tom Varn Park becomes the site for an old fashioned town gathering when Brooksville hosts a movie in the park on Friday night.

Families are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs for the free showing of “The Lego Movie” under the stars.

“This is our third year offering the free event to the citizens, with two or three movies per year,” said Mike Walker, director of the Brooksville Parks and Recreation department.

The movie will be shown outdoors on a large screen, roughly 20 feet by 11 feet.

“We gather everyone on the front softball field here at Tom Varn Park, and it is a wonderful free event for all to enjoy,” said Walker.

“The Lego Movie” is a 3D animated film in which the storyline revolves around the character Emmet, a rules-following, average Lego mini-figure is who is mistakenly identified as someone who is key to saving the world. He is drafted into a world that he is hopelessly unprepared, in a quest with his friends to stop an evil tyrant.

Several well-known actors are the voices of the characters in the movie, including Liam Neeson from “Taken” and Taken 2” and “Schindler’s List,” and Morgan Freeman, known for his roles in “Driving Miss Daisy” and “The Shawshank Redemption.”

The movie is rated PG.

Attendees should bring lawn chairs, coolers, and blankets. Snacks will be available for purchase.
