Ten students from The Awakening Tiger Dojo at Hernando County Parks and Recreation competed at the 2010 Amateur Athletic Union Tae Kwon Do National Championships and the International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) U.S. Open Championships. The students brought home 10 awards from the two competitions.

The students are under the instruction on Master Sam Kinard.

Of the 10 students, eight competed at nationals, and two represented Awakening Tiger Dojo at the IKSA U.S. Open.

The eight students attended the championships at the Broward Convention Center in Ft. Lauderdale were: Anna Costello, Timothy Plunkett, William Levendowski, Nicholas Plunkett, Benjamin Doring, Brannyn Washington, Camryn Hay and Olivia Guerin.

Hay earned a silver medal for forms, and added a gold medal in sparring.

Guerin also earned a gold medal in sparring, as did Washington. This is the first national gold medals for both Guerin and Washington.
Plunkett, father of fellow competitor Nicholas Plunkett, earned a silver medal in sparring and a bronze medal in forms.

Levendowski, Nicholas Plunkett and Doring all earned bronze medals in their respective sparring matches.

Any gold medalist automatically earns entry into next year’s National Championships.

Two students competed in the ISKA U.S. Open at the Coronado Springs Resort in Kissimmee were brothers Daniel and Charles Erwin. Daniel placed third in forms. Charles placed fifth in forms and was a finalist in sparring.

Both boys are under the instruction of Master Kinard and were coached by assistant instructor Sondra Kist.

Awakening Tiger Dojo Tae Kwon Do program is available through the Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department.
Classes continue throughout the summer.
