Impaired Driver Crashes into Marked Patrol Car
On June 13, 2016 at approximately 2:28 p.m., Jeremy O’Brien, driving his 2015 Volkswagen sedan, crashed into the rear of Deputy Darrin Burger’s marked patrol vehicle. The crash occurred at the intersection of Deltona Boulevard and Abeline Road while Deputy Burger was waiting for the traffic signal.
While investigating the traffic crash, Deputy Brian Smith detected the odor of marijuana. Upon further examination, Deputy Smith found Mr. O’Brien to have bloodshot, watery eyes, and dilated pupils.
Following the traffic crash investigation, field sobriety testing was administered, which indicated impairment.
O’Brien was subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI). O’Brien was held on $1,000 bond for DUI.
Deputy Burger was transported to a local hospital by Hernando County Fire/Rescue and later released.
