Mental Health
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “Only 25% of adults with mental health symptoms believed that people are caring and sympathetic to persons with mental illness”. Sheriff Al Nienhuis wants those who live with mental illness to know that we care.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has embarked on a journey to educate our first responders in Crisis Intervention Team Training. By educating our personnel in C.I.T. training we are working to ensure good communication between our First Responders and the public we serve thus resulting in successful outcomes.
One of the most common types of mental illness is depression which effects more than a quarter of the U.S. adult population. Did you know that there are services available right here in Hernando County for those who live with mental illness? Our partners with Bay Care Behavioral Health and NAMI Hernando are here to help.
