Body found after Spring Hill house fire

SPRING HILL — Firefighters discovered a body after a Thursday morning house fire in Spring Hill.

The body had not been identified Friday. Hernando County sheriff’s officials said the homeowner, listed in county property records as Thomas A. Digney, 63, was unaccounted for.

Hernando County Fire Rescue received a call about a fire at 12454 Montego Street at 4:36 a.m. Thursday. The house was already in flames when firefighters arrived minutes later.

“I’d never seen a house go up so fast,” said Bruce Miller, who lives next door to the burned home.

Miller said Digney has lived in the house for the last 15 years. Miller described him as a quiet Navy veteran who would sometimes help Miller with his computer.

The home was deemed a total loss. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
