Volunteers Needed for Sheriff’s Traffic Aides
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is seeking volunteers living in the Spring Hill area who are interested in volunteering for the Sheriff’s Traffic Aides (STAs) team.
The primary mission of the Sheriff’s Traffic Aides is to provide traffic control at motor vehicle accident scenes or in the area of a structure fire. When needed, STAs may also support Emergency Operations, such as when wires are down or a traffic signal malfunctions. Their work is critical to the safety of those involved in an incident, as well as the first responders attending to them.
Previous traffic control experience is not required. STAs receive specialized training and equipment. Uniform shirts, caps and vests are also provided free of charge. Sheriff’s Traffic Aides must pass a required background check, including fingerprints.
