Spring Hill Man Charged in Fraudulent Use of Relatives Debit Card
On 04/07/2015, a Pasco County couple reported that their debit card was stolen and used to make fraudulent purchases in Hernando County.
Records show that between March 2 and March 31, 2015, the stolen debit card was used to make multiple purchases and an ATM withdrawal totaling $602.87. The debit card was also used multiple times in Pasco County, which is being investigated by the Pasco Sheriff’s Office.
Using surveillance footage from Hernando County businesses where the crimes occurred, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Daniel Lee Werther, 31, Spring Hill.
Werther is the couple’s nephew.
In addition to the video evidence, detectives used order slips placed by Werther at a local restaurant, which contained the suspect’s name and address, to confirm his identity. Werther used the stolen debit card to make multiple purchases at this restaurant.
On 06/26/2015, Werther was arrested by Pasco County deputies on a Hernando County warrant on charges of fraudulent use of a credit card and criminal use of personal identification.
His bond was set at $4,000.
