Spring Hill and Brooksville Regional among seven HMA hospitals getting new names

BROOKSVILLE – Brooksville and Spring Hill Regional hospitals are among seven health management hospitals comprising a new regional network called Bayfront Health.

The network stretches 150 miles along the Interstate 75 corridor, from Brooksville in the north to Punta Gorda in the south. The new health network serves to improve patient care by providing a complete continuum of services for Gulf Coast residents, the hospital said, and includes three hospitals south of St. Petersburg, one hospital in St. Petersburg, and hospitals in Spring Hill, Brooksville, and Dade City.

According to Media Relations Specialist Susan Frimmel, medical staff was informed of the name change in June, and starting Aug. 19 residents and patients can start to notice signage changes with the hospitals.

“We announced it at the Hernando County Chamber meeting last week,” Frimmel said. “I’m personally very excited about this new affiliation. With seven hospitals we’re going to have a lot of new resources available.”

The name change entails shared resources among the health care providers, Frimmel said. For example, Spring Hill and Brooksville Hospital patients who could benefit from the geriatric program in Dade City, which is not currently available at either hospital, would be able to do so, Frimmel said.

“We can share servces across the board, which really helped to broaden the scope of services that we can provide to our community,” she said. “So while we might not have a certain surgery here, we will at one of our other hospitals.”

Bayfront Health, the newly created healthcare network of seven hospitals along Florida’s Gulf Coast, has more than 66,000 inpatients, 202,000 ER visits, nearly 57,000 surgeries, and more than 500,000 outpatient visits each year, the release shows.

Other highlights of the network include transfer agreements in the areas of trauma, pediatrics, stroke, cardiac, OB, NICU and mental health services. Residency and other educational and training opportunities for medical staff will occur, the release shows, as well as the establishment of specialty service line centers in the areas of epilepsy and robotic surgery.

“Bringing these seven hospitals together as a unified network enables us to deliver a broader range of medical services and technologies than any one hospital could provide on its own,” said Patrick Maloney, market CEO for Brooksville and Spring Hill Regional Hospitals. “Brooksville and Spring Hill Regional Hospitals are excited to join this new network and to add Bayfront Health to our name.”

As Bayfront Health becomes an integrated system, patients can choose the facility and physician that best meets their medical needs.

According to a release issued by the hospitals, the network is expected to be a smooth transition that will improve the quality of care provided at the healthcare facilities.

Each hospital is being re-branded to make the facilities more identifiable in the Bayfront Health network, according to the release. Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, previously Bayfront Medical Center, will serve as the flagship hospital. Bayfront Health will also benefit from a clinical and educational affiliation with UF Health, the release shows.

Other hospitals in the network are:

. Bayfront Health Brooksville (previously Brooksville Regional Hospital)

. Bayfront Health Dade City (previously Pasco Regional Medical Center)

. Bayfront Health Port Charlotte (previously Peace River Regional Medical Center)

. Bayfront Health Punta Gorda (previously Charlotte Regional Medical Center)

. Bayfront Health Spring Hill (previously Spring Hill Regional Hospital)

. Venice Regional Medical Center

“We are raising the bar in healthcare by sharing knowledge and expertise, clinical protocols and advanced technology,” Maloney said. “It all adds up to significant improvements in the delivery of healthcare for our community.”
