Sheriff Warns of Suspicious Incident Involving Security System Salesman
On 02-08-16 just before 5 p.m., a white male wearing a dark shirt and light colored pants approached a husband and wife at their residence on Minnow Creek Drive in Hernando Beach. The male indicated that he was trying to sell security systems.
When speaking to the wife, the male advised he worked for the company “GE” and asked several questions about the couple’s current security system. At no time did the male identify himself, although he did have some sort of a name tag on. The wife was unable to read or remember the information on the name tag. The male advised he could provide a new security system for $50.
When speaking to the husband, the male advised that he was “working on behalf of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office” in reference to recent vehicle and residential burglaries in the area, and he was trying to sell security systems. Again, the male did not identify himself, just that he was working in partnership with the HCSO.
When the couple became suspicious of the male, he advised that “he had other houses to visit” and promptly left the area.
When deputies arrived in the area, they were unable to locate the individual.
Please note, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office does not solicit, nor have we “partnered” with any individuals or businesses selling security systems or any other product. However, if we intend to do so in the future, keep in mind we will always advise our citizens in advance.
