Shawn Exposito Arrested for Fraud
On 07-14-15, Terri Colburn reported to Hernando County Sheriff’s detectives that her Bank of America debit card was fraudulently used on numerous occasions between the dates of 07-05-15 and 07-08-15.
Colburn advised detectives that her debit card was used to make various cash withdrawals at the Bank of America and to make purchases at both Rural King in Spring Hill and RaceTrac in St. Petersburg.
The fraudulent transactions amounted to $3,188.39.
Investigation revealed that on 07-05-15, Colburn was ill and required an ambulance at her home. Shawn Michael Exposito was present at the time, and waited with Colburn for the ambulance to arrive.
Based on the circumstances, Colburn suspected that Exposito obtained her debit card and used it while she was hospitalized.
Detective Chris Vascellaro obtained surveillance video of the suspect using the debit card. The still photos were shown to Colburn, who positively identified the suspect as Shawn Michael Exposito. At the time, Exposito lived next door to Colburn.
The still photos were also presented to a relative of Exposito who also positively the person in the photo as Shawn Michael Exposito.
Further investigation revealed that Exposito was on the run and possibly staying at an unknown location in St. Petersburg. On 08-10-15 a warrant was obtained for his arrest.
On 09-27-15, Shawn Michael Exposito W/M DOB/07-20-1967 was placed under arrest by Hernando County deputies, he was charged as follows:
• Fraudulent Use of Credit Card
• Criminal Use of Personal Identification
• Grand Theft.
Exposito bonded out a short time later after posting $6,000 bond.
