Republican Holcomb running for county commission
BROOKSVILLE – Republican Jeff Holcomb became the third person to file papers to run for the District 4 county commission seat.
Holcomb, an 11-year resident of Spring Hill, hopes to take the seat now occupied by Republican Dave Russell, who is stepping down after two terms.
Holcomb is an officer in the U.S. Navy reserves based at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. He has more than seven years of service, including two active duty tours. He stressed that, as a reserve ensign, he is allowed to run for political office. Active duty military are barred from doing so.
In his press statement, Holcomb describes himself as a “hard-charging conservative Republican who is ready to tackle the budget issues facing the county.”
He said his philosophy is to “defend the Constitution with conservative fiscal policy and less intrusive smaller government.”
Holcomb has served as a volunteer at the Republican National Convention, worked on multiple campaigns, been a canvassing board member and a deputy treasurer in the Republican Executive Committee.
Holcomb has 19 years in the in the recordkeeping software industry, 14 of those as a software consultant. In 2012 he completed a master’s degree in Intelligence Studies with honors from American Military University. He got his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Maryland.
Holcomb’s entry into the race comes about one month after Realtor Laurie Pizzo filed with the elections office to run on the Republican ticket.
Russell has already endorsed Pizzo.
The sole Democrat in the District 4 race is Dan Oliver, a Teamsters steward and county facilities maintenance technician.
