Progress being made on Brooksville Common
BROOKSVILLE – This time last year, Gary Wilson stood in an empty lot between Patricia’s Boutique and the First United Methodist Church of Brooksville on Broad Street, imagining a space where people could meet, interact or spend quiet time in meditation.
Construction has been progressing on Brooksville Common in past weeks. A pavilion has been built and brick walls installed.
Wilson, a retired physician and spokesman for a group of volunteers from First United Methodist who have been working to make the vision a reality, said he hopes the common area will be ready in time for the Florida Blueberry Festival on April 12 and 13. The construction should be complete, Wilson said, and will require a sign-off from the city.
The site was selected because of its view of Antonio Caparello’s massive Civil War mural and because the empty lot previously housed a Presbyterian church in the early 20th century.
