Possible sinkhole reported in Spring Hill

A possible sinkhole in Spring Hill has led to the evacuation of one home this evening, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

The report of the sinkhole at the intersection of Eldridge Road and Van Allen Way was received about 5:30 p.m., sheriff’s officials said. When deputies arrived, the depression measured about 25-by-25 yards and was 30 feet deep. Since then, it has grown to about 40-by-40 yards but remains about 30 feet deep.

One home has been evacuated. Three other homes were temporarily evacuated, but the residents were allowed to return.

No injuries reported, officials said.

The intersection will be closed until further notice, officials said.
