Owner of 2 German shepherds cited in attack that killed poodle
BROOKSVILLE — A Brooksville woman was issued multiple citations from animal control officers Monday after two German shepherds attacked and killed a smaller dog and bit the dog’s owner, the Brookvsille Police Department said.
The incident happened around 3:25 p.m. Monday near the Chevron gas station on Broad Street, where Susan Roscillo, 64, was walking her 20-pound dog, Venus, police said.
Sally Anleu, 47, drove up and asked how long Roscillo would be in the area with her dog, as Anleu wanted to let her dogs out of her vehicle, police said.
“I am leaving now,” Roscillo said, according to the news release.
Before Roscillo could leave, two German Shepherds, “came out of nowhere,” and attacked Venus, with one dog on each side, aggressively biting the smaller dog, police said.
When Roscillo tried to pick up Venus, the German Shepherds bit her on both hands, police said. A woman saw what was happening and tried to “use a hose” to separate the dogs, but was unsuccessful; Anleu also grabbed both of her dogs to try and control them, police said.
Anleu offered to drive Venus to a veterinarian for treatment, but Venus died of her injuries, police said.
Animal Control officers responded to the veterinarian’s office and issued Anleu multiple citations, police said.
The charges are related to having nuisance animals, and one of the dogs had not been vaccinated, said Hernando County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Denise Moloney.
Roscillo returned to the Chevron station, where paramedics treated her, police said. She later went to a hospital for additional treatment, police said.
The German Shepherds remain in Anleu’s custody, Moloney said.
