New senior apartment complex, RV park headed to Hernando
BROOKSVILLE – A 103-unit, seniors-only housing complex is headed for State Road 50.
When completed later this year, Vista Park Apartments will include a three-story apartment complex and one-story villas with garages. There will also be a commercial section, with six lots already platted for retailers. O’Reilly Auto Parts has expressed interest in one of those parcels, which will be located in front of the homes.
Vista Park Apartments will go up on 8.5 acres on the north side of State Road 50, at Eagle Drive, just before High Point subdivision. Site plans show 14 buildings, including a clubhouse.
Atlantic Housing, the developer of the complex, will get financing for the project from the Florida Housing Finance Corporation, which offers federal tax credits by creating affordable rentals. Atlantic Housing also developed Bridgewater Club Apartments and Nantucket Cove Apartments in Spring Hill, both of which are affordable housing communities.
Don Lacey, senior vice president for Coastal Engineering Associates, said the location is ideal for seniors because of the proximity to medical offices, hospitals and stores. There is also a mass transit bus route near the site.
“In this county, there is a need for senior housing,” Lacey said.
Barring any delays, site clearing could begin as early as April, he said.
Vista Park will be less than one mile from the State Road 50-Mariner Boulevard intersection, which is fast becoming known as the retail hub of Hernando County. That reputation will soon be enhanced with the building of Cortez Commons, a mega-shopping development on the southwest corner of that busy intersection.
Meanwhile, another developer has submitted plans to expand an existing recreational campground north of Brooksville and add additional amenities. Belle Parc RV Resort will be located along U.S 41 and Ancient Trail.
It will have spots for 276 recreational vehicle lots and owners would be able to park their rigs up to 180 days.
Alan Garman, vice president for Greenman-Petersen Inc. engineers, said the first phase of the four-phase project should begin as soon as the necessary permits are in-hand.
The construction trades should get a much-needed boost from the two projects, said Buddy Selph, broker with Tommie Dawson Realty.
The RV park is located in a heavily treed area outside of town where people can enjoy a nearby lake and nature, which should be a draw for people who enjoy that lifestyle, Selph said.
