Man wanted in Hernando County arrested in Clearwater
A Spring Hill man who was wanted on charges in Hernando County was arrested in Clearwater this morning after a standoff with a SWAT team.
According to Clearwater police, a bail bondsman, attempting to make contact with 25-year-old Alexander Smith at 411 S. Nimbus Ave. around 7:15 p.m., police after others in the apartment left after telling police he was still inside and possibly had multiple weapons.
The SWAT team was called out, and the apartment complex and two adjacent businesses were evacuated as a precaution, police say.
Smith was found hiding in a closet, police say, and he was taken into custody without incident shortly after midnight.
Smith is being transported to Hernando County, police say.
Jail records show Smith has been arrested multiple times in Hernando County on charges including drug possession and violation of probation. His last arrest was on June 20.
