Glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunt offers new twist on tradition

The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals is putting a whole new twist on Easter family fun with a glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunt on Saturday night.

The “Hop n’ Glow Egg Hunt and Easter Celebration” runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Anderson Snow Park, 1360 Anderson Snow Road in Spring Hill.

“This is a first-time event for the chamber’s Young Professional group,” said Dawn Badami, coordinator for the event. “We’re hoping this will be an amazing night for the kids. I’m not sure if there has been anything like this in the county.”

More than 500 kids are expected to attend and hunt for more than 7,000 glow-in-the-dark Easter eggs hidden on the grounds at the park.

Kids can dance the night away on a specially made glow-in-the-dark dance floor.

Photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny and a few surprise characters will also be available.

“I’ve heard the Kona Ice Penguin will be there as well as Big Frog,” said Badami.

Many games and activities are planned for the kids, such as glow-in-the-dark face painting, airbrush tattoos, and balloon artists, along with plenty of food choices, from hotdogs, hamburgers, and chili, to Italian ice, cotton candy, and cupcakes.

Admission to the event is $2 per person for ages 2 and older.
