Founders didn’t trust ‘big’ government
Our Founding Fathers didn’t trust “big” government. Our Founding Fathers wanted to make the citizens of the United States of America to be the rulers and the government to be the servants. This is what it means that the United States of America is indeed an exceptional nation. No other nation in the world has the freedoms and Bill of Rights that we inherit and possess.
Our Founding Fathers wanted to make individual freedom to be the keystone of our constitutional republic, for they knew that big governments can not be trusted. Like kings and dictators, governments with power can abuse that power and power can corrupt the rulers.
The historian and moralist Lord Acton in 1887 expressed this opinion: “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.” And the English politician Earl of Chatham and British Prime Minister in 1770 said: “Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it”
To make the people the rulers and secure their freedoms the Founding Fathers gave us the U.S. Constitution to be the cornerstone of our nation. They made the U.S. Constitution to be the supreme law of the land that limits the power of government and gives its citizens the Bill of Rights.
The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution reads as follows: We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
According to Wikipedia: “The Preamble to the United States Constitution is a brief introductory statement of the Constitution’s fundamental purposes and guiding principles. It states in general terms, and courts have referred to it as reliable evidence of, the Founding Fathers’ intentions regarding the Constitution’s meaning and what they hoped the Constitution would achieve.”
Our Founding Fathers didn’t trust “big” government because governments are run by people, and people can be corrupted. What we have today in Washington D.C. is a corrupt government being run by a leader who was a community organizer that enjoys fulfilling Sal Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.
President Obama and his administration have shown openly what a corrupt government can do to the people. Every aspect of his presidency has been involved, to some degree or another, with some unethical or shady dealings. Obama has been more of a divider than an organizer.
The Affordable Care Act is the pinnacle of his social agenda for America, and its success has been because some in government, mostly career politicians, are like-minded and are socialist or progressives at heart who believe that big government is the answer to social problems. Unfortunately, big government always ends up controlling the lives of the people.
Big government means less freedoms and it needs money, plenty of money, to operate. That is why President Obama wants no limit on the debt ceiling. Governments are good at spending other people’s money, and President Obama’s agenda is driving this nation to the cliff.
Obama’s Affordable Care Act will bankrupt this nation – but worse than that, it will control every individual’s freedoms and all aspects of their lives, with the IRS as the police lurking to fine you or take you to jail. This will be Obama’s legacy, unless “we the people” do something about it.
The elitists in Washington have exempted themselves from being ruled under the Affordable Care Act and enjoy giving themselves their own salary and benefits on the backs of the taxpayers. This in itself tells the story of our corrupt government.
It is sad to say that our government is corrupt and it didn’t happen over night. This is not to say that there are some honest politician who have gone to Washington D.C. with good intentions of “cleaning house” and serving faithfully to their constituents who elected them, but their numbers are few.
When the leader of the nation ignores our very own Constitution and bypasses the Congress, we have a dictator in the making. That is not what America is about. The president is not above the law. If Congress doesn’t rein in this unbridled president, then “we the people” who are the keepers of the U.S. Constitution must defend it at all costs, even if it means removing its president by legal means.
It’s one thing when a foreign government wants to take away our freedoms and liberties, but when it is own government – “Houston, we have a problem.”
