FHSAA finalizes basketball, volleyball districts
The FHSAA on Friday released finalized districts for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons for boys and girls basketball, as well as volleyball.
Also revealed, the tentative district lineups for cross country, golf, boys and girls soccer, swimming and wrestling.
As in football, the trend of Springstead – the county’s most populated school – by its lonesome while Central, Hernando, Nature Coast and Weeki Wachee are lumped into one district continued.
But perhaps the biggest news is in wrestling, where the three-time defending state champion Eagles remained in Class 2A.
However, Brandon, one of the nation’s premiere programs having won 13 straight state crowns and 24 overall, moved back down from 3A to 2A.
The impact of Weeki Wachee, wrapping up its third school year, continues to be felt on nearby Central, which dropped in classification almost across the board. Conversely, Weeki Wachee’s programs have all generally moved up.
Hernando Christian Academy stayed in 2A for girls basketball and volleyball, and independent in boys soccer. In boys basketball, in which the school has not fielded a varsity team the past two seasons due to low numbers, the Lions are also independent.
Schools have until April 24 to appeal the tentative districts.
