Dickey’s Barbecue Pit coming to Brooksville
BROOKSVILLE — A new Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is headed to Brooksville.
Steve Phillips, operations manager for Ambrose Restaurants Inc., said Tuesday he is eyeing a Jan. 1 opening at the new location at 19348 Cortez Blvd. in the Publix-anchored Brooksville Square shopping center.
Phillips expects to hire 30-35 people and is inviting prospective employees to stop by from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Dec. 6 at the site.
Phillips said this will be one of four new Dickey’s locations planned for the region. The next three are — in order of construction — Ocala, Spring Hill and Inverness.
“There are no other barbecue chains within 20 miles of us,” said Phillips, acknowledging there are a few mom and pop sites. “Barbecue is a concept that’s really picking up.”
Phillips said his main competition will be Sonny’s BBQ, located off U.S. 19 in Spring Hill.
The new restaurant will be about 1,800 square feet. The signage is already up and a Dickey’s van is parked prominently in the parking lot to alert people of the imminent opening.
Based in Dallas, Texas, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit opened its first store in 1941 and has since expanded nationwide.
Dickey’s smokes all their meats on-site at the restaurant and menu items include beef brisket, pulled pork, ham, polish sausage, turkey breast and chicken, with an extensive array of home-style sides, according to the restaurant website.
