The Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 Broad Street, is being transformed into a holiday wonderland as the 3rd Annual Candy Cane Acres kicks off this weekend.

Each Friday and Saturday night through Dec. 20, visitors will be taken into the holiday magic of Christmas, including a visit from Santa Claus, a Florida-style “hay” ride, cookie decorating with Mrs. Clause, musical lights display, Christmas tree displays, crafts, apple cider, hot chocolate and more.

The event costs $10 a carload, with each receiving 10 tickets for food, drink, games and fun.

Teresa Voiles, secretary of the Hernando County Fairgrounds, said the fair’s main function is to give back to the county. By organizing family-friendly, safe, seasonal events the county gives residents options that are also cost-effective.

Several local businesses and organizations are also sponsoring decorated trees for display, which is a highlight of the festivities.

“My favorite is the redneck tree,” Voiles said.

Candy Cane Acres begins Friday and Saturday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and extends each weekend through Dec. 20. For more information, visit hernandocountyfairgrounds.com or find them on Facebook at facebook.com/pages/Hernando-County-Fairgrounds.
