Candidate qualifying comes to an end
BROOKSVILLE — Let the campaigning begin.
Friday was the last day candidates running for the 2014 election could qualify.
“Everything went very smooth,” Elections Supervisor Shirley Anderson said of the qualifying process. “We had no hiccups.”
Here is a rundown of who’s running for what:
♦ County Commission District 2: Incumbent Republican Wayne Dukes, Democrat Jimmy Lodato and No-party candidate Brian Moore
♦ County Commission District 4: Republicans Jeff Holcomb and Laurie Pizzo, Democrat Dan Oliver and No-party candidate David Werder
♦ School Board District 1 (non-partisan): Mark Johnson, John Sweeney and Donald Whiting
♦ School Board District 3 (non-partisan): Beth Narverud and Jay Rowden
♦ School Board District 5 (non-partisan): Anna Liisa Covell, Susan Duval, Cynthia Moore and Robert Neuhausen
♦ Brooksville City Council Seat 1 (non-partisan): Robert Battista (who wins because he was unchallenged)
♦ Brooksville City Council Seat 4 (non-partisan): Vivian (Vi) Coogler, Betty Erhard and William Kemerer
♦ Brooksville City Council Seat 5 (non-partisan): Natalie Kahler (who wins because she was unchallenged)
Voters will also find a referendum on the Nov. 4 ballot asking to approve or deny a one-cent sales tax increase to help pay for capital improvements.
Residents of Brooksville also likely will see a referendum on the November ballot asking them to approve or deny the continued use of red-light cameras in city limits. Anderson said she is waiting on the city to present her with language for such a referendum and it has until Aug. 22 to get that information to her.
