Assisted living facility approved for Wiscon Road
BROOKSVILLE — An 85-bed assisted living-skilled nursing facility could soon be headed for Wiscon Road after planning and zoning commissioners voted 3-2 Monday to approve a special exception use permit for the applicant.
Located on 4.10 acres on the northwest corner of Wiscon Road and Lykes Dublin Road, the facility would be 35 feet high and have parking spaces for 43 cars.
A staff report said the applicant, Mary Reed, plans to develop a 4.1-acre residentially zoned parcel, with a maximum of two structures no more than two stories high.
Commissioners John Scharch and Thomas Comunale voted against the request, primarily because they wanted fencing around the property to protect Alzheimer’s patients.
Scharch said he is familiar with such places because his dad was in an assisted living facility and this plan needed to be more “fleshed out.”
“There’s a shocking lack of detail here,” he said.
However, a majority of members agreed that the project meets all land development regulations.
