Fine Arts Council seeking volunteers

BROOKSVILLE – Hernando County Fine Arts Council is recruiting volunteers for its 25th annual Art in the Park to be held Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3, at Tom Varn Park located at 306 Darby Lane, off West Jefferson Street (S.R. 50A). Volunteers are sought for two-hour shifts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday for the following activities: student art exhibit, hospitality table, Mother’s Day card making station, raffle table, children’s art table, exit survey and clean-up. Victims Voice event at courthouse

BROOKSVILLE – Victims Voice 2009, A Time of Remembrance, will be conducted through May 2, which is National Victims’ Rights Week. A program to remember victims of crime will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the Hernando County Courthouse in the Jury Selection Room on the third floor of the courthouse located at 20 North Main St. The public is invited to attend and show support for the victims and survivors of crime. Anyone that would like a loved one to be remembered during this program should call Mary Johnston of the State Attorney’s Office at 352-754-4255.

Brookridge to host Mother’s Day dance

BROOKSVILLE – Brookridge Social Dance will host a Mother’s Day dance from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the community club house located at 8151 Hampton St. Music will be provided by Starburst, and mothers will be given a little something. Bring own beverages; ice, coffee and hot tea will be available throughout the evening. Doughnuts will be served at approximately 9:30 p.m. For information, call Dot at 352-597-0723.

Gospel jam at Faith Fellowship

BROOKSVILLE – Faith Fellowship Church will host a bluegrass and country gospel jam from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2, in the Fellowship Hall of the church located at 19255 Campground Road. All ages are invited to attend to sing, play an instrument, or just to listen. Light refreshments will be served. Anyone who wants to play an instrument should arrive at 1:30 p.m. to set up. Arc to hold spring dance

BROOKSVILLE – The Arc Nature Coast will hold a spring fling dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 8, at West Hernando Middle School located at 14325 Ken Austin Parkway. Crime Watch to hold pancake breakfast

HERNANDO BEACH – Hernando Beach Crime Watchwill sponsor its annual pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at the Hernando Beach Club located at 3145 Flamingo Blvd. A menu of pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and juice will be featured at a cost of $5 for adults and $2.50 for children 10 years old and under. There will be representatives from the Sheriff’s Office and various equipment displays on-site as well as a 50/50 drawing and door prizes. Everyone is invited. For information, call 352-293-3375.
