HCSO Conducts Critical Incident Mock Drill
Date: July 9, 2016
On 6-29-16, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics team (SWAT) conducted an impromptu training scenario that featured an officer who was injured by gunfire.
Hernando County Fire Rescue and the Brooksville Fire Department also participated in this drill.
At 5:31 p.m., members of the HCSO Special Weapons and Tactics team were called out to a residence in Hillside Estates, which is located in the city of Brooksville.
Once they arrived, the team was briefed on how a deputy had responded to a weapons disturbance at a home in Hillside Estates and was shot.
The Special Weapons and Tactics team immediately devised a plan to rescue the injured deputy.
Once the injured officer was moved to a safe location the Special Weapons and Tactics team responded back to the residence to secure the suspect.
Hernando County Fire Rescue and the Brooksville Fire Department treated the injured deputy and completed a mock transport.
This training scenario was designed to foster a working partnership between the HCSO, Hernando County Fire Rescue and the Brooksville Fire Department.
This partnership will feature future impromptu training scenarios to prepare first responders for critical incidents similar to what recently occurred in Orlando.
