HCSO Aviation Unit Guides Deputies to Impaired Driver
On 5-21-16 at 9:34 p.m., a deputy on proactive patrol spotted a vehicle parked on the north shoulder of Osowaw Boulevard.
The deputy observed the vehicle’s hazard lights flashing and a man, later identified as Alexander Baity W/M DOB/10-21-88, standing near the rear of the vehicle.
When the deputy stopped to offer assistance, he noted Baity was nervous and anxious and possibly under the influence of narcotics.
As the deputy reached into his patrol cruiser to grab a notepad, Baity got into his vehicle and drove away.
The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however, Baity refused to stop.
When Baity began to exceed the speed limit, the deputy terminated his pursuit and requested the Aviation Unit to track the suspect.
For the next 45 minutes Baity drove throughout Hernando Beach and into Pasco County and back to Hernando County.
As Baity turned back onto Osowaw Boulevard, deputies were able to deploy spike strips in order to disable Baity’s vehicle.
After the vehicle was disabled, deputies were able to take Baity into custody without further incident.
Baity is charged with Driving Under the Influence and Fleeing or Eluding a Police Officer.
Baity told deputies that he had injected himself with methamphetamine three or four times in the last five days.
His bond was set at $5,000.
