K-9 Team Tracks and Locates Injured Female
On 08-04-15 at approximately 1:30 p.m., Hernando County deputies were dispatched to the IHOP restaurant on Commercial Way in Spring Hill regarding a Suspicious Person.
The caller stated as she was exiting the restaurant, she observed a white female, described as being in her mid-20’s, wandering aimlessly in the parking lot and to other nearby businesses.
The caller went over to check on the female and immediately noticed that she had a laceration on her neck that was bleeding. There were also multiple cuts on the female’s legs; however, the cuts on her legs appeared to be older.
The female told the caller her injuries were a result of domestic violence. The caller told the female that she should notify law enforcement. At that moment, the female became frantic, stating, “He will kill me” and “No, no, no cops.”
The female, still bleeding, then ran off into a densely wooded area to the south of the IHOP.
Approximately five minutes elapsed before the first deputy arrived on scene.
Arriving deputies immediately established a perimeter around the area. A K-9 team and HCSO Aviation were dispatched to the scene in an attempt to locate the injured female.
Corporal Stephen Miller and K-9 Justice conducted a track from the area the female was last seen and were able to locate her in the residential area to the east of the IHOP. Upon contact, the female had fresh, superficial lacerations to her neck, as well as multiple older lacerations to her arms, calves, and thighs.
Hernando County Fire/Rescue checked the female on scene. She did not require medical transport.
Upon speaking with the female, deputies learned that the lacerations were all self-inflicted. There was no evidence of domestic violence and the female confirmed that no act(s) of violence occurred with another person. She told deputies that she is a “cutter” and has been for some time due to childhood trauma.
Deputies determined that the female was a danger to herself. She was transported to Springbrook Hospital for specialized care.
