Woman flushes stolen jewelry, Brooksville officers say
BROOKSVILLE – A Tampa woman was arrested at the Brooksville Wal-Mart Wednesday on charges that she flushed stolen jewelry down a men’s room toilet, according to Brooksville Police.
Jessica Spillane, 30, was seen in the 7305 Broad St. store concealing jewelry and clothing worth $143.83 and walking out of the store without paying for them, an arrest report shows. After being confronted outside of the store by employees, Spillane ran back into the store and into the men’s bathroom. She then flushed costume jewelry down the toilet and threw out other stolen items in a trash can.
Spillane was arrested on charges of retail theft, and initially gave her sister’s name and birthday to law enforcement when being booked at the Hernando County Jail.
She received additional charges of providing a false name to law enforcement and a violation of probation charge on a Hillsborough County warrant for the original charge of petit theft.
Spillane is being held on $1,000 bail.
