Spring Hill homeowner catches burglar in the act, deputies say
A man who walked into a Spring Hill home and ate two hotdog buns before stuffing items into a plastic bag was arrested Friday after being caught in the act by the owner, deputies said.
Wilfredo Morales, 62, of 3535 Portillo Road, Spring Hill, faces charges of felony burglary of a dwelling.
Morales entered an open garage on Mariner Boulevard around 2 p.m. Friday and began moving items around, according to a report from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. He then went into a vehicle and went through the center console, placing a Sony Walkman and three cell phone chargers into a plastic trash bag, deputies said.
Morales then entered the home and took another trash bag from under the kitchen sink, deputies said. He ate two hotdog buns and was rummaging through a toy container in the living room when the home’s owner noticed him, the report said.
The home’s owner pulled the bag from Morales and escorted him off his property, deputies said.
As he was walking to the road, Morales mumbled to himself that the home was his, the report said.
Deputies found Morales on Mariner Boulevard. He was uncooperative and refused to give a statement, the report said.
Morales was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center and was being held on $15,000 bond.
