Spring Hill teen arrested in car burglary case

SPRING HILL A 19-year-old car burglary suspect was arrested Tuesday – but not until two deputies sustained minor injuries during the apprehension, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Steven Dennis Daskauskas was charged with multiple counts of burglary and one count each of resisting arrest with violence and giving false information to law enforcement. He was booked shortly after noon at the Hernando County Jail.

Daskauskas stole an iPod and a cell phone from a 2000 Ford that was parked at 2279 Landover Blvd., deputies said.

An arrest affidavit showed he admitted to the Landover burglary.

Detectives said they think the suspect was involved in several more vehicle burglaries across Hernando County.

When deputies came in contact with the suspect at 1518 Meredith Drive, he originally gave them a false name, according to the sheriff’s office.

During questioning, Daskauskas appeared “on edge” and started slowly backing away, deputies said.

He was told to relax and not to run, but he tried to flee, according to the affidavit.

One of the arresting deputies grabbed him and the two went to the ground. Daskauskas struck him in the face with his elbow, which caused the deputy to suffer a bloody nose, authorities said.

A second arresting deputy also sustained minor scrapes on his hands during the altercation, according to reports.

Daskauskas was handcuffed and transported to the jail.

Once the suspect’s identity was revealed, deputies learned he had a Hernando County warrant for several vehicle burglaries. More charges are expected to be filed.

Daskauskas, who has no known address, was held at the jail without bail.
