Hernando deputy arrested on DUI charges, troopers say
BROOKSVILLE – A Hernando County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested on Sunday night on DUI charges in Brooksville, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A probable cause affidavit shows Joseph Tibor, 45, was pulled over on State Road 50 after a FHP trooper’s radar captured him driving 85 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Tibor first said he hadn’t had any alcoholic beverages to drink that evening, then when the trooper said his eyes were bloodshot and watery, the deputy said “ok, well I had maybe five drinks earlier.”
After failing field sobriety exercises, Tibor was arrested on charges of driving under the influence. He refused to provide a breath test at the Hernando County Jail, the affidavit shows.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Denise Moloney said Tibor has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
