Hernando picks new human resources manager
BROOKSVILLE – Jerry Haines has seen two human resources managers resign during his 27-year career with Hernando County and was appointed interim head of the department both times.
Today, Haines had the interim removed from his title and become Hernando County’s newest human resources manager.
Assistant County Administrator George Zoettlein confirmed Wednesday that Haines replaces Cheryl Marsden, who resigned unexpectedly last month after five years.
Haines, who has a bachelor’s degree, has been the county’s workers compensation and safety manager. That position will not immediately be refilled.
He has been involved in developing budgets and managing department expenses and participated in negotiations with Teamsters Local 79.
“I feel that I have the knowledge and experience to further develop and grow our organization as well as the Human Resources Department,” Haines said in his application.
Also applying for the vacant job was Anna Lamy, who joined the county two months ago as public information specialist. Lamy has a master’s degree in business administration.
The minimum educational requirements include a bachelor’s degree and eight or more years experience, five of which in a leadership capacity.
Zoettlein said both candidates had the requisite educational background but Haines has more experience in government human resources and deserves the opportunity given his long tenure with Hernando County.
“It was only fair that I give him a shot at it,” Zoettlein said.
The Human Resources Director position was advertised at a salary range of $65,749 to $105,995 annually. Haines, currently making $66,371, will now make $73,009.
County policy required the county to post the advertisement for three days internally to allow in-house employees to apply.
