50 marijuana plants found in Brooksville house, detectives say
BROOKSVILLE – Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics recovered 50 marijuana plants and nearly a half pound of marijuana on Saturday after serving a search warrant.
Detectives seized drugs, paraphernalia, and arrested one man at 15293 Pomp Parkway in Brooksville.
During an unrelated investigation, deputies noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the home. When law enforcement knocked on the front door, a man tried to run out of the back door and was caught by deputies.
Vice and narcotics later served the search warrant, and found marijuana being grown in three bedrooms in the home, as well as the garage.
Didier Vazquez, 32, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking in marijuana, possession of a structure for the purpose of manufacturing a controlled substance, cultivation of marijuana, trespass/larceny unauthorized to connect to utilities equipment.
Vazquez is being held on $46,000 bail, and an immigration detainer has been placed, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office recently served two additional search warrants on unrelated cases.
On Friday, detectives served a search warrant at 12350 Peregrine Falcon Ave. in Brooksville, seizing drugs and discovering a grow operation.
A property manager alerted law enforcement after finding suspicious items in the rental home during an inspection.
Deputies found leaves on the ground by a Uhaul that tested positive for marijuana. Law enforcement found 191 cloned marijuana plants in the house, and 144 marijuana plants in the trailer, as well as equipment needed to grow the plants.
Nicholas Ryan Khalili, 20, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released from jail the following day on $10,500 bail.
Last Thursday, sheriff’s detectives served a search warrant at 8468 Annapolis Road in Spring Hill, and discovered 17.8 grams of marijuana, paraphernalia and evidence of a grow room.
A juvenile was also taken out of the home by Florida Department of Children and Families and released to a family member.
Louis Kennedy, 43, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell/deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $5,500 bail the following day. Michele Arusztowicz, 39, was arrested on the same charges as Kennedy and released on $5,500 bail.
