Guided the Eagles under center to a school- and county-record back-to-back district championships . Collected school-record 24 wins in 34 career starts as signal caller (71 percent) . Was one of two 1,100-yard backs for the Eagles this season . Concluded his prep career with 5,148 combined career rushing and passing yards running the veer option . Rushed for 2,485 rushing yards and tallied a school-record 34 touchdowns . Passed for 2,663 yards and 19 touchdowns against 19 interceptions . COMMENTS: Repeat All-County selection . Joined Mahla as Springstead’s first-ever pair of 1,100-plus-yard rushers in 38 seasons . Again led the team in rushing attempts (214) and finished second on the team in rushing yards (1,186) . Despite being carried out in an ambulance a week earlier, Wright bounced back with 264 yards and three scores against Gainesville in the 6A-II semifinal win . Despite getting clobbered on every rushing attempt or fake, only lost the football four times this season.

COMMENTS: In 2012, Bradley ranked fourth on the Bears in rushing behind a pedestrian 114 yards . A year later, the 5-foot-9, 180-pounder rushed for 1,154 yards and a team-best six touchdowns . Finished the season just behind Mahla and Wright in the rushing race . His seasonal highlights included a career-long 71-yard touchdown run and personal-best 225 yards against archrival Weeki Wachee . An FACA District 10 all-star selection.

COMMENTS: The 5-foot-9, 155-pounder moved in from Indianapolis . Led the county in receptions (29) and receiving yardage (344) . Seasonal highlights included a personal-best 59-yard grab against Springstead . He snared a season-high seven aerials for 55 yards against South Sumter.
QUOTES: “Dayonta is a possession-type receiver, who did a good job of making the catch and adding some YAC (yards after the catch). . The kid has football smarts and loves the game. . Coming from a dynamic football program really helped him. . If we would have thrown the ball more, he would have had an even better season.”

COMMENTS: The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder ranked sixth in the circuit in receptions (15), second in receiving yards (303), and first in yards per catch (29.2) and touchdowns (five) . On special teams, Grant tied Weeki Wachee’s Tyler Wiley for the county lead with two returns for touchdowns – both against Central . He averaged over 45.3 yards on eight kickoff returns with a long of 83 yards . Defensively, he added five pass breakups and 41 tackles.
QUOTES: “Troy had a pretty good season. He made a lot of big plays for us. . He really made his mark on defense for us last year. This year, he was our go-to guy offensively. . Late in the season when Derrell (Holland) went down, we needed someone to step up and return kicks. He was reluctant at first, but it all came together against Central. COMMENTS: Was the center on an undersized Eagle O-line that helped carve out a county-best 4,267 yards of offensive real estate – for an average of 328 yards per game – including 3,347 yards via the rush.
QUOTES: “Austin is like the rest of our O-line. He plays undersized (5-foot-9, 198 pounds). . Size really doesn’t matter; it’s all about leverage and body position. You don’t have to pancake a guy to have a good block. . Austin was very coachable and always seemed to be in the right position. He was more of a technician.”

COMMENTS: A rare four-year letterman .Three-time All-County selection . Highly regarded as a 6-foot-2, 240-pound offensive guard who played every down on offense and every snap as a defensive tackle . Displays tremendous motor, great hips and terrific balance . On defense, he ranked third on the team in tackles (82) behind a county-leading 23 for a los) and four caused fumbled.

COMMENTS: As the team’s venerable right guard, Peppe helped SHS snap the school record for most points scored in a season (328), most touchdowns in a season (46) and most rushing touchdowns (38).

COMMENTS: Repeat All-County selection . A 6-foot-6, 290-pound left tackle, he graduated early and signed a financial aid agreement with Rutgers, guaranteeing his scholarship . Named to the FACA District 10 Senior All-Star Team and played in North-South All-Star Classic last month.
QUOTES: “He had plenty of pancakes this year. His bench press has improved and he’s a heck of a lot stronger now than when he got here. . Maybe if we had a coach who would have used more of a zone blocking scheme, we would have been more successful (rushing the football). Marcus’ strength is zone blocking. . Our quarterbacks didn’t have to worry about sacks with him in the lineup. . Even as big as he is, he’s not stiff, he can move.”

Helped SHS average a county-low 5.2 penalties per game, averaging only 43 yards in penalties this season . Named to the FACA District 10 Senior All-Star Team . A third team All-State selection in 6A.

COMMENTS: Repeat All-County selection . Excellent blocker . Physical tools include being 6-foot-3, 203 pounds . For the second straight year, he finished third on the team in receptions with 12 . Ranked second in the county in yards per catch (21.2) only behind Hernando’s Grant (29.2) . Seasonal highlights included a 52-yard touchdown catch from backup quarterback Joe Jeffords to help sink Gainesville, and his fourth-quarter 50-yard grab from Jeffords to beat Sunlake.
QUOTES: “Tyler is a guy that doesn’t say a whole lot. No disrespect to the tight end from Land O’ Lakes, but Tyler was a force for us. . He was a tremendous blocker and when he released downfield he became a big-play target. . Before the season, he struggled during the summer passing leagues with consistently catching the football. Once the season started, he was money. I think it’s all about confidence. He was on a roll all season long.”

COMMENTS: First-time All-County selection . Had never placekicked before this season . Led all county kickers with 52 points . Snapped Andres Pinzon’s old county mark of 43 point-after attempts in 2010 with 45 . Tied Pinzon’s 2010 county record of 40 successful PATs . Converted 4-of-5 field goal attempts . His longest was 37 yards . Did a nice job of blending his kickoffs to include the dangerous angled kick to help prevent long returns . Did a fine job at safety for the Eagles notching 80 tackles including four pass breakups and one interception in the 6A-II final at Armwood.
QUOTES: “Defensively, we had a kicker playing center field for us and he did his job keeping everything in front of him. . Tyler should have had more field goal attempts. We had confidence in his abilities, but we would always rather go for six than three (points).”

COMMENTS: Three-year starter at nose guard . Repeat All-County selection . Built like a Buick at 6-foot, 230 pounds . Despite being double- and triple-teamed most of this season, Cowan finished tied for second on the team with 100 tackles, highlighted by a team-high 10 for a loss and four sacks, while notching two fumble recoveries and blocking a kick . When injuries sidelined the Eagles’ top two inside linebackers, Conor Ross and Juan Espinosa, Cowan was switched to middle linebacker . With other teams spending so much effort attempting to block Cowan, SHS’ defense responded with a county-high 35 turnovers, highlighted by a county-best plus-14 turnover ratio.

COMMENTS: Repeat All-County selection . Suspended by the FHSAA for three weeks (missing two games) for throwing a punch (not landing) in retaliation in the preseason . Despite playing in eight games, the 6-foot-5, 215-pounder finished third on the team in tackles (80), notched 11 tackles for a loss and a team-high five sacks . Chipped in a fumble recovery, one interception and one blocked kick – mostly from his defensive end slot . Named to FACA District 10 Senior All-Star Team and played in North-South All-Star Classic last month.
QUOTES: “Played outside linebacker and defensive end for us this year. . Type of player that makes things happen. . When he was on the field, he was a difference-maker. . Has an uncanny ability to find the football. . Has the athletic tools to run plays down. . Once he came back from his suspension, he played like he had something to prove. . Conor Ross

COMMENTS: Built like a fire hydrant at 5-foot-10, 192 pounds . Is looked at as the heart and soul of county-leading defensive unit . All-County for the third straight season . Was lost for the season late in the fourth quarter of the Nov. 1 Land O’ Lakes game due to an injury to ACL in left knee . Had he remained injury-free was most likely the candidate for Defensive Player of the Year laurels . Still paced the Eagles in tackles (114) and finished only behind Hernando’s Jeremiah Jackson (132) in the county . Has posted back-to-back 100-tackle seasons . Created havoc by tying Wiggins in sacks (6.0).
QUOTES: “Had a great season this year. . Probably would have had 160 or more tackles had he not gotten hurt. . Great kid; very coachable, very respectable. . Plays every down as if it’s his last. . Goes a 100 miles an hour even in practice. . Tremendous work ethic and won’t back down. . Doctor says he’ll be 100 percent by June. . COMMENTS: Played inside linebacker at 5-foot-8, 156 pounds and was one of four Eagle defenders to collect at least 100 tackles . Totaled three sacks and four tackles for a loss including a huge hit from his knees against Land O’ Lakes to spearhead a huge goal-line stand at the “The Swamp” . Notched what could be a county record for most fumble recoveries (six) in a season . Missed last two playoff games due to ACL/MCL injury . Due to the severity of the injury, Espinosa may never return to the field.
QUOTES: “Had an amazing season. He’s an undersized backer with a huge heart. He’s so physical and athletic; we could play him in man-to-man pass coverage against Land O’ Lakes. . Was always around the fumble and displayed a tremendous will to pursue. . Some guys wait for things to happen; Juan never hesitated, he made things happen. . I’d love to have him back next year, but the long-term prognosis isn’t good.”

COMMENTS: At 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, Williams finished second on the Sharks in tackles (100), only behind the team’s other inside linebacker Dylan Miller . Williams notched 10 tackles behind the line, was credited with nine hurries and recovered three fumbles.
QUOTES: “Before this year, he hadn’t played much. . We kept trying to find a place for him to play, before he settled in at inside backer. . He was very coachable and did everything we asked him to do. He was the big body we needed the play the ‘Mike’ linebacker. . To me, Roshawn is a downhill style-hitter like Joey Berrios was. I think he’ll get an opportunity to play at the next level.”

COMMENTS: Three-time All-County selection . The 6-foot, 210-pound Jackson made it back-to-back season with 100-plus tackles . Led the team and the county with 132 tackles . Collected 18 tackles behind the line – ranking second in the county behind Gaudin’s 23 . Rushed for 246 yards on offense and scored three touchdowns . Served as team captain with Gaudin . Named to the FACA District 10 Senior All-Star Team as a linebacker and played in North-South All-Star Classic last month . Selected to 5A All-State second team.

COMMENT: A converted basketball player . At 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, he turned heads as a first-year starter in the Hornets’ secondary . Ranked first on the team and third in the county in tackles with 105 . Broke up five passes and recorded one interception . Set a school record by returning two kicks on special teams for touchdowns at South Sumter . Averaged 36.0 per eight kickoff returns and 6.5 yards per each punt return.
QUOTES: “Played free safety for us and came down into the box in a hurry and in a foul mood. . Has tremendous ability to cover a lot of ground in a hurry. . To me, he’s a football player in a basketball player’s body. . Football will be his ticket to move on. . I’d call Tyler a diamond in the rough. . COMMENTS: Enjoyed a breakout campaign behind a 5-foot-7, 175-pound frame . Ranked sixth on the team in tackles (78), featuring four tackles for a loss, plus three sacks . Paced the Eagles’ secondary with seven pass breakups and a team-best three interceptions . Finished the season at inside linebacker due to season-ending injuries to Ross and Espinosa.
QUOTES: “He had the ability to play several positions at a very high level for us on defense at cornerback, inside and outside linebacker. . Dylan was our best cover corner. . Out of necessity, he had to play all over. . He’s physical, aggressive and has a team-best 31-inch vertical leap. . He’s one of the guys we’re leaning on for leadership next year.”

COMMENTS: Led the Hornet secondary in pass breakups (eight) and interceptions (two), returning one back for a touchdown . The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder ranked fifth on the team in tackles with 53 . He came off the edge to record a team-high 11 tackles behind the line . Led the county in pass breakups (13) and added an interception.

His longest run was 66 yards against Zephyrhills . His finest game featured 109 yards on 14 carries at Citrus.

COMMENTS: Described as a third-down or possession-type receiver, who runs crisp routes . Tied for second in the circuit in receptions (20) behind Dayonta Patterson of Weeki Wachee (29) . Finished second in county in touchdown receptions (three) behind Hernando’s Grant . As a backup signal caller, Jeffords completed 3-for-4 attempts for 115 yards and one touchdown.
QUOTES: “He was another coach on the field. . He’s one of the smartest guys we’ve ever had. . Didn’t play defense for us, but would have known what to do in any situation. . It’s never a bad thing to have a backup quarterback on the field. . Joe was much more than that. He and Tyler (Mahla) knew where everybody was supposed to be on every snap. . If he saw a defense reacting a certain way, he’d relay that info to us on the sidelines. The touchdown pass he caught that broke open the Citrus playoff game was his call.”

COMMENTS: Ranked third on the team and tied for fifth in the local circuit in tackles (100) as a 5-foot-8, 158-pound outside linebacker . Season was highlighted by three sacks and four fumble recoveries . Was in on two huge goal-line stops against Sunlake at Booster Stadium.
QUOTES: “Holdway is very quiet and just goes about his business. . He was our leading tackler on special teams. . Rarely does he ever miss on a tackle. . What I liked most? That he always forced the play back inside. . He had a couple terrific hits in goal-line situations against Sunlake.”

COMMENTS: At 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, he paced the Sharks in tackles with 114, averaging 11.4 tackles per game . His seasonal highlights featured two sacks and 13 quarterback pressures.

COMMENTS: Served as Springstead’s defensive coordinator for over a decade before being named to replace Bill Vonada as the Eagles’ eighth skipper . The 38th edition of Springstead football went 11-2 and further into the playoffs (third round) than any previous Hernando County team . No county team had ever reached the coveted 11-win plateau, nor ever reeled off 11 victories a in a row in any one season . SHS broke numerous school records including most points scored in a season (328), most total touchdowns (46), most rushing touchdowns (38), most 1,000-yard backs in one season (two) . The Eagle defense forced a county-high 35 turnovers (22 fumble recoveries, 13 interceptions) for a county-best plus-14 in the turnover ratio . SHS was also the least penalized team in the county (5.2 penalties per game) . In the process, SHS captured back-to-back district championships for the first time in county history.
