2 face battery charges after neighborhood brawl, deputies say

Two men were charged with battery on a neighbor in Brooksville on Sunday after one man hit him and another struck him with a baseball bat, deputies said.

Craig Miller faces simple battery charges and Dallis Young, 48, faces aggravated battery charges.

Miller was intoxicated when he went to his neighbor’s home in the 27000 block of Aubrey Avenue to get keys to a truck that he had loaned him, according to a report from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. Miller banged on the door and was cursing when the neighbor came outside, the report said.

Miller told deputies that he got in his neighbor’s face and may have pushed him. The neighbor said Miller started hitting him, and he began to fight back, according to the report.

During the fight, Miller fell down and broke his left arm, the report said. That’s when Young ran out of a front yard at 27215 Aubrey Ave. with an aluminum baseball bat and swung it at the neighbor, hitting him on the left arm, according to the report.

Young threw the bat in the front yard and ran to his home at 6392 Cammie St., the report said.

During an interview with detectives, Young said he saw Miller, and the victim in a fight in the street and ran to his friend’s aid with a baseball bat to “beat the stuffing out of” the victim, according to the report.

Young has a long record, which includes charges for battery, assault, resisting arrests and weapons offenses according to jail records.

Young was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center and was being held on $5,000 bond.
