Woman steals car, leaves ID in it

BROOKSVILLE –
A 28-year-old Dade City woman was arrested Sunday night and charged with grand theft and possession of methamphetamine after a Hernando County Sheriff deputy found her identification card inside a stolen vehicle.

Stephanie Dasinger’s name was printed on a credit-card-like white card with a bar code on the back, according to Deputy Jared Snow, who responded to the stolen vehicle call at 31070 Cortez Blvd.

A plastic bag of methamphetamine was found in the central car compartment. Dasinger’s pink backpack was found on the passenger seat.

Snow wrote in his report Dasinger, who was inside a business when Snow arrived, denied owning the bag, identification card, and said she did not steal the vehicle. The report also stated the car had been altered to allow the car to start with a screw driver or similar tool.

Dasinger was arrested and held in the Hernando County Jail on $5,000 bond for the methamphetamine and $2,000 bond for the grand theft charge.
