Death of Realtor remains unsolved

BROOKSVILLE –
For more than nine months, the death of Jackie Studer has remained a mystery.

The 65-year-old Realtor was discovered dead in her bedroom the afternoon of June 1. Detectives said she died from a gunshot wound.

If the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has any thoughts, guesses or suspicions about Studer’s death, no one at the agency is prepared to divulge them.

The Medical Examiner’s Office in Leesburg referred all questions about the case to the sheriff’s office.

“We are still waiting on testing beyond toxicology,” said Sgt. Phil Lakin, who supervises the major case unit for the sheriff’s office.

Lakin declined to go into detail.

Toxicology reports generally take between four to six weeks. Cpl. Wendy McGinnis, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, said the case remains tied up in Leesburg and it cannot be closed until all of the testing is complete.

Studer’s husband, Robert Julig, 65, called 911 when he discovered his wife was unresponsive in their bedroom, according to reports. The couple lived in an unkempt house at 2013 Finland Drive in Spring Hill.

Neighbors said they frequently saw patrol cruisers parked along the road. Julig, according to court records, had a history of domestic violence.

He had been arrested about a dozen times, and the charges included aggravated stalking, DUI and domestic battery.

Relatives said Studer suffered from “battered wife syndrome.” She would call the authorities and have her husband arrested only to turn around and bail him out of jail, they said.

Julig also had a history of drug abuse. Three months before her death, Studer called 911 after she noticed her husband was heavily intoxicated after taking a high dose of prescription medication, according to sheriff’s office reports.

Studer thought Julig was trying to kill himself, deputies said.

Julig was arrested that day on allegations that he violated a domestic injunction prohibiting him from living with or contacting Studer.

After he got out of jail, he resumed living with her, neighbors said.

He was arrested on another violation charge after Studer died.

Court records show no active cases against Julig. Mail sent to his old address has been returned marked “undelivered.”

Lakin or anyone else at the sheriff’s office would not comment on whether Julig remains a person of interest in the case.
