Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market eyed for Spring Hill Drive

BROOKSVILLE — Hernando County soon might get its first Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, a scaled-down grocery version of the larger superstores.

The chain is eyeing property at the southeast corner of Anderson Snow Road and Spring Hill Drive. An Orlando-based engineering firm has contacted the county about the site, and Wal-Mart representatives recently met with county building officials.

Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets typically are about 42,000 square feet and employ almost 100 people. They carry a full line of grocery, deli and baked items and have a pharmacy.

Wal-Mart has about 35 of the smaller marketplace stores in Florida, with the nearest ones being in Clearwater and Dunedin. There is one under construction at Ridge Plaza, at the corner of Ridge and Little roads in Pasco County.
