Tilted Tea room to hold 50s-themed event

When Aimee and John Gans opened the Tilted Teacup Tea Room & Boutique in a quaint historic home in downtown Brooksville, they wanted to serve tea. Aimee had always dreamed of owning her own tea room and serving home-baked scones to her customers with an experience she had grown to love as a child.

Two years later, the Tilted Tea Cup has become a popular venue for all sorts of elaborate-themed events.

And the couple is gearing up for an exciting 1950s-themed extravaganza scheduled for July 12, the final big party in their historic dwelling.

The Tilted Teacup Tea Room & Boutique, which debuted at 200 W. Fort Dade Avenue in 2012, will move to its new location later this year inside the historical Roger’s Christmas House, located on Saxon Ave. It is a bittersweet change, said Aimee Gans, who labored passionately to prepare the historic home, with its towering majestic oak tree.

But they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to expand into a larger facility, especially one that preserved so much of downtown Brooksville’s history.

“I love our beautiful place on Fort Dade,” Aimee said. “We worked so hard to make it ours. But we really did need more room to hold these events.” The themed parties are popular and have become staples of the Tea Room’s expanding allure.

The 1950s event will continue the tradition of authentic atmosphere, complete with all the tea room experiences but with a whimsical 50s feel. Guests are encouraged to dress in that era. For ladies, that means saddle shoes, poodle skirts or knickers and for men it’s greased back hair, jeans and undershirts.

But anything will do as the guests are treated to High Tea, which includes a teacup of soup, an assortment of tea sandwiches, quiche, fresh-baked scone with cream, a selection of desserts on a three-tier server and an unlimited pot of tea.

The cost is $24.95 for adults and $20.95 for children. The Tilted Teacup is offering two sittings: 11:30 and 1:30. Reservations are required to insure enough seating.

The Tilted Teacup Tea Room & Boutique is also looking for antique automobiles, with slots for up to 15 automobiles, to complete the look. Guests will vote on their favorites. Winners will receive a gift certificate to be used at a later date: $40 for first place, $30 for second place, and $20 for third place.

Anyone interested in the car show will receive $3 off the price of the event if they choose to experience both.
