Quilt show and tea

The “Quilt Show and Lady Dresden Tea” presented by High Point Quilt Club takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday at the Community Center, 12249 Club House Road, Brooksville. Admission to the quilt show is $4 and the Lady Dresden Tea is $4 (optional). There will be antique and memorial quilts, a certified quilt appraiser ($10 to $40), vendors, opportunity baskets, used books and magazines. English tea will be served along with cakes, tea sandwiches and chocolate covered strawberries from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Proceeds will be donated to projects within the High Point Community. QUILT SHOW
Car show benefit

The fourth annual Car Show Fundraiser sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Spring Hill rolls into the Towne Square Shopping Mall, 3021 Commercial Way, Spring Hill, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (rain date March 1). The registration/donation fee for car entry is $5, which benefits the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Enjoy live entertainment, hot dogs, chili, chips and raffles. Singer Brian Roman performs along with comedian Ted Holum at Hernando Arts Guild’s show on Saturday at the Hernando High School Auditorium, 700 Bell Ave., Brooksville. Roman’s repertoire includes hits by Tom Jones, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. Tickets are $20 to $25 and include light refreshments. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Raffle tickets and a 50/50 will be available with the proceeds going toward scholarships for fine arts students. Budding brides

Prospective brides will have an opportunity to meet with some of the area’s top bridal vendors and take advantage of exclusive Palace Grand Bridal Show deals at the 2014 Bridal Show, from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at The Palace Grand, 285 Della Drive, Spring Hill. Highlights of the afternoon include a bridal fashion show, food tastings, and prize drawings throughout the afternoon. All registered brides will be eligible to win a free dream wedding. Mardi Gras party at VFW post

Have a blast at Machine Gun Shoot

Hernando Sportsman’s Club is sponsoring its next Machine Gun Shoot from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Club, 16121 Commercial Way, Brooksville. Admission/entry fee is $20 per machine gun shooter. No tracers or incendiary ammo allowed, and participants must be 18 years old to shoot. Admission for spectators is $2 per person and children under 15 are admitted free with an adult. Bring your own eye and ear protection, even if you are a spectator, and especially for children. Food and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Coming up sign up now for Chili Challenge

YMCA of the Suncoast hosts its Annual Chili Challenge from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the YMCA Hernando Branch, 1300 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. Tickets are available at the branch for $7 in advance or for $10 the day of the event. Tickets entitle the holder to samples of the entries, crackers, corn bread, cheese, sour cream, beverage and ice cream for dessert.

Low-cost pet vaccinations

Mark Wilson, a staff veterinarian for Florida International Teaching Zoo, is sponsoring a Low Cost Pet Vaccination Clinic from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tractor Supply, 18741 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. The cost of vaccinations for dog/cat rabies shot is $7; dog/puppy parvo-distemper combos $15; cat/kitten distemper $15; and bordatella/kennel cough $16. All vaccinations are administered by a licensed veterinarian and documentation will be provided. Fees are tax deductable contributions that benefit the Teaching Zoo facility in Bushnell. Chili Cook Off and bowling benefit

The Unstoppables, a Walk MS team, hosts its second annual Chili Cook Off and Bowling fundraiser from 2 to 5 p.m. on March 2 at Mariner Lanes, 3544 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. The cost for bowling is $10 per person and includes three games and shoes. The cost to taste, vote and enjoy a bowl of chili with crackers is $5 per person. Don’t miss Weeki Wachee Swamp Fest

The 21st Weeki Wachee Swamp Fest takes place March 7 and 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and March 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, 6131 Commercial Way, Weeki Wachee. The event features live entertainment, arts and crafts, food court and more than 200 prize drawings. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 11 and free for 5 and under. Proceeds benefit the Hernando Environmental Land Protector, Weeki Wachee Crime Watch, Weeki Wachee Area Club and other community non-profits. The Suncoast Coin & Stamp Show takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 8 at The New Lakes Regency Park, 8330 Civic Drive, Port Richey.
