Homicide Investigation – 451 Rio Vista Court

Update

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the homeowner, Jose Walter Medeiros, along with his daughter, Nancy Walker, and his friend, Fernando Silva, were socializing in the residence during the early morning hours on 05-23-16. Also in the residence was Roxane Torres, a recent renter or roommate in the Medeiros residence.

At some point a verbal altercation took place. The verbal altercation escalated and Medeiros retrieved a firearm and shot his daughter and Silva.

From her bedroom, Torres heard the gunshots and came out to see what was happening. Torres saw Medeiros fumbling with the firearm, which had just jammed and attempted to disarm him. At the same time, Silva, who was wounded, assisted Torres in trying to disarm Medeiros. Medeiros threatened to kill Torres during the struggle for the firearm.

Medeiros then retrieved a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Silva several times.

Torres was finally able to call for help.

Medeiros walked out of the house and waited for deputies in the front yard. He was taken into custody without incident.

Nancy Walker H/F DOB/07-02-1971 was transported to Bayfront Health Spring Hill where she succumbed to her injuries. Next of kin notification complete.

Fernando Silva H/M DOB/02-20-1958 was transported to a local trauma center where he is in intensive care.

Roxane Torres H/F DOB/02-03-1966 was not injured.

Jose Walter Medeiros H/M DOB/12-29-1951 was placed under arrest and charged as follows:

– Murder in the 2nd Degree
o No Bond
– Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree
o Bond – $50,000
– Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon
o No Bond.

The case remains active. There is no additional information available at this time.

Original Information

On 05-23-16 at 3:46 a.m., the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding a “shooting” at 451 Rio Vista Court in Spring Hill.

The first deputies arrived on scene at 3:54 a.m. and located two injured victims.

Both victims were transported by Hernando County Fire/Rescue to local trauma centers where one victim succumbed to injuries. A third victim was not injured during the altercation.

Major Case detectives are in the early stages of a homicide investigation. All parties have been accounted for. There is NO DANGER to the public.
