Hernando Today will stop publishing after Nov. 30

At the end of November, Hernando Today will cease publication after three decades of serving Brooksville and the surrounding communities.

A tough newspaper advertising climate made the printing and distribution of the twice-weekly newspaper cost-prohibitive, said Ken Koehn, managing editor of The Tampa Tribune.

“We cherish our role of serving the Hernando community, which made this an extremely difficult decision,’’ Koehn said. “But like many newspapers across the country, we are streamlining operations to make our core products financially successful.’’

The newspaper began as the free Green Sheet more than 30 years ago. On Nov. 11, 1987, the first edition of Hernando Today was published.

Through the succeeding years, more publication days were added until it eventually became a daily paper in 1999. In subsequent years, publication was scaled back to twice a week.

The last edition of Hernando Today will be published Nov. 30. Stories will also stop being published on hernandotoday.com.

For Hernando Today subscribers who don’t already receive the Tribune, we will transition your service into a Thursday-Sunday Tribune subscription unless we hear from you by Dec. 3. Your new delivery service will begin Dec. 4.
