Deputies searching for suspect in bank robbery attempt

Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputies are searching for a man who tried to rob a Spring Hill bank on Wednesday morning.

The robbery attempt took place at a Compass Bank, 401 Mariner Blvd., about 10:10 a.m.

The suspect entered the bank, approached one of the tellers and demanded money. He did not display a weapon and after a brief exchange, he fled on foot, deputies said.

Deputies are searching for a 25-30-year-old black male who is 6 feet tall and about 200 pounds. He had medium-length, dark hair and possibly facial hair. He was wearing a long sleeve, white button up shirt, light colored jeans, avatar sunglasses and low cut blue sneakers.

He was last seen heading to the northwest through the parking lot.

The sheriff’s office was searching for the man using a K-9 and a helicopter.
