Pilot seriously injured in experimental plane crash
Brooksville — Today at 10:37 a.m., Hernando County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to a reported plane crash in a wooded area of the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport. Airport officials and HCFR units arrived within several minutes and found the pilot standing near the burning wreckage.
Advanced life-support care was rapidly administered to the 63-year-old pilot, who was flown by Bayflite to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.
Additional HCFR crews rapidly extinguished the plane and wooded area without further incident.
HCFR units on scene included 2 fire engines, 1 aircraft rescue firefighting truck (ARFF), 2 rescues, 1 brush truck, 2 battalion chiefs and 1 administrative chief, for a total of 16 personnel. HCFR worked diligently to see that the patient was provided the highest level of care and transported to the most appropriate trauma facility for continued care. HCFR was assisted by airport officials, Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and Bayflite. The Federal Aviation Authority has been contacted for further investigation.
