Woman charged with DUI, drug possession

SPRING HILL Deputies say a woman spotted swerving left and right on Commercial Way was found to be under the influence of an unknown substance and have large bag full of various pills in her possession.

Witnesses claim they spotted a Dodge Van driving erratically on Sunday by changing speeds and swerving among three lanes of traffic along near Forrest Oaks Boulevard, according to a Hernando County Sheriff’s Office report.

The van was also seen at times traveling off the roadway and into the grass.

A deputy drove behind the van and—after witnessing the driver swerve—activated his emergency lights. The van didn’t immediately stop. Instead it swerved three times and struck a curb before pulling over, the report showed.

When approaching the vehicle, the deputy found that the driver, Deborah Bommersbach, 35, of Tampa, barely coherent — claiming she kept falling asleep and forgetting what was asked of her.

She also thought she was in Valrico.

At one point, a clear bag containing numerous pills fell out of her purse. One the drugs identified was oxycodone.

When the deputy attempted to have Bommsbach perform field sobriety tests, she was unable to stand on her feet, the report showed.

Bommersbach was taken to Hernando County Jail where she was charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance without prescription and multiple counts of possession of a legend drug.

Her bail was set at $40,000.
