TRAFFIC TIP TUESDAY 09-15-15

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to talk to your children about walking or riding their bike to school or the bus stop.

If your child is riding a Bike:

1. Always wear a bicycle helmet.
2. Ride on the right, in the same direction as auto traffic.
3. Respect traffic lights and stop signs.
4. Wear bright colored clothing.
5. If riding during darkness, make sure that the bicycle is equipped with the proper light/reflectors.
6. Do not ride with headphones on.

If your child is walking:

1. Make sure that your child knows the safest route possible to school/bus stop.
2. Look both ways before crossing the street (left, right, left).
3. Respect traffic lights and stop signs.
4. Wear bright colored clothing.
5. If walking during darkness, carry a flash light to be visible to motorists.
6. Stay out of the roadway. Wait off of the road for the bus.
7. Do not walk with headphones on.

The Traffic Unit will be out to help educate students to be as safe as possible, however we need parents and guardians help to spread this message to keep our children as safe as possible. For motorists we ask that you remember that children are back to school. Drive the posted speed limit, stop for stopped school busses and keep an eye out for children travelling to and from school. DRIVE SAFE!
