Summer Jam family event

Hernando County Parks & Recreation, Team Maddison Rae and AME International present a Summer Jam Benefit Concert in the Park from noon to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Hernando Park Bandshell, 205 E. Fort Dade Ave., Brooksville. Six bands perform, and there will be craft vendors, exhibits, beer, wine and food for sale, along with a playground and free activities for the kids. The cost is $5 per person for ages 13 and up; $1 for ages 5 through 12; and 5 and under free. Proceeds benefit Cystic Fibrosis and Hernando County Parks & Recreation.

Fun evening event

Join the Friends of Weeki Wachee State Park for the summer’s second Family Beach Bash from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Buccaneer Bay, 6131 Commercial Way, Spring Hill. The Beach Bash features water fun, hula-hoop contest, spin-it-to-win-it game and food at family-friendly prices. Admission is $5 per person and ages 2 and under are free. Proceeds benefit park improvements.

What’s that coin worth?

A Coin Show presented by the West Hernando Coin Club takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Brooksville Elks Lodge, 14494 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. Admission and parking are free.

Coast Guard open house

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary celebrates its 75th Anniversary with an Open House from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hernando Beach Flotilla 15-8, 4340 Calienta St., Hernando Beach.

Chinsegut Center has 2 Saturday programs

Chinsegut Conservation Center, plans two Saturday events:

♦ Guided Hike at Big Pine Wildlife Environmental Area on Old Crystal Road in Brooksville from 9 to 11 a.m. with naturalist and native plant expert David Rakes.

♦ Children in the Wild, “Cool Creatures Underground!” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for ages 3 to 7 at the Chinsegut Conservation Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville. Program: Using cover crops to improve soil

SUF/IFAS Hernando County Extension Sumter County is offering a free class, “Using Cover Crops to Improve Soils,” at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Extension office, 1653 Blaise Drive, Brooksville. Learn how cover crops can solar-charge your soil and improve soil nutrients.

Encore Academy knitting workshop

Encore Academy at Pasco-Hernando State College offers a Knitting Workshops from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at its North Campus, 11415 Ponce de Leon Blvd., room B-101, Brooksville. The cost is $12 and students need to bring U.S. size 10 knitting needles and one large spool of yarn. The Academy provides educational opportunities to adults over the age of 50. Film screenings set on vision loss

The Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind invites the public to attend special screenings of the film, “Going Blind: Coming out of the Dark about Vision Loss,” at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brooksville Lighthouse, 6492 California St., Brooksville, or at 10 a.m. on June 27 at the Port Richey Lighthouse, 8610 Galen ILSON Blvd., Port Richey. The film is a documentary that tells the story of coping with vision loss from the director, Joseph Lovett’s own experience and others who have lost their vision through diseases, infections and accidents. A panel discussion follows each showing.

Low-cost vaccinations offered for pets

Mark Wilson, staff veterinarian for the Florida International Teaching Zoo, is sponsoring a Low Cost Pet Vaccination Clinic from noon to 1:30 p.m. on June 28 at Tractor Supply, 18741 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. A dog/cat rabies shot is $7; dog/puppy parvo-distemper combos $15; cat/kitten distemper three-way is $15; and Bordatella/kennel cough is $16. All vaccinations are administered by a licensed veterinarian and documentation will be provided. No sick pets.
