Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Party

St. Pat’s in September

Ancient Order of Hibernians, Hernando County Division 1, hosts its second annual Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Party from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Saint Francis Cabrini Xavier Hall, 5030 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. Tickets are $15 or two for $25 and include dinner, Irish music, Irish dancers and door prizes.

Soda and water will be available for sale, but BYOB. No tickets will be sold at the door; you can pick up tickets at Dr. Michael Higgins office, 4055 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. For information, call (352) 593-4325.

Line dancing event

Brookridge Good Times Line Dance Social Club’s next social will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at their Clubhouse, 8150 Hampton St., Brooksville. The cost is $5 per person for line dancing only, no lessons, but instructors will be available to give aid if needed. Dress comfortably and wear shoes that slide, or foot tubes will be available to put over shoes. You are welcome to bring snacks, drinks and ice.

Pet adoptions

Animal Rescue Friends Network and PetLuv plan an Adoption Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the PetLuv Clinic, 7348 Broad St. in Brooksville. Adoptable dogs and cats will be available both inside and outside the building.

Come out for fun, food, music and possibly find your forever friend. You also can have your picture taken with the ARF’N dog!

Big Band Bash

Hernando Jazz Society opens its 2014/2015 season with a program called “Big Band Bash at the Wellington” at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wellington Clubhouse, 400 Wexford Blvd., Spring Hill. Enjoy a nostalgic afternoon of music from the Big Band Era. Admission for non-members is $10 per person or $15 per couple and HJS members are admitted free. The Sioux City Grill will provide a cash bar and buffet (not included with admission price). Season tickets are available for $50 per person, and include nine performances. German Club hosts Welcome Back Dance

The German Club of Spring Hill hosts a “Welcome Back Dance” today at the Hernando Shrine Hall, 13400 Montour St., Brooksville. Tickets are $11 in advance, $11 for members and $14 for guests. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., hors devours and two free glasses of wine from 5 to 5:45 p.m. only and dancing from 6 to 10 p.m. B.Y.O.B. and dress casual. Sons of Italy plan Saturday picnic

Sons of Italy Nature Coast Lodge 2502 host their annual Lodge Picnic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at The Heather, 9100 Nakoma Way, Weeki Wachee. The cost is $12 per person for members and immediate family only. Coffee and donuts will be served at 9:30 a.m. and the main meal is at noon. No tickets will be sold at the door. Olive Grove offers greek story time

Head out for Greek Story Time and learn about Greek Mythology every Saturday at 11 a.m. at The Olive Grove, 15016 Rester Drive, Brooksville. The cost is $10 which includes a healthy snack and a free olive tree. Workshops for September are as follows:

◆ Saturday: Make all natural olive oil hand and dish soap, cost is $10.

◆ Sept. 14: Make laundry soap.

◆ Sept. 20: Make all natural olive oil shampoo, cost is $10.

◆ Sept. 21: Make all natural conditioner, cost is $10.

◆ Sept. 27: Paint sand dollars, cost is $5.

◆ Sept. 28: Make an ancient style clay olive oil lamp, cost is $5.

Accordion club kicks off its new season

Accordion Adventure Club begins its new season from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chicken Lickens Family Restaurant, 3019 Commercial Way, Spring Hill. Enjoy some accordion pieces from the big band era. Yacht club hosts dinner and dance

Hernando Beach Yacht Club invites the community to a fun night of dinner and dancing Wednesday at 4163 Shoal Line Blvd., Hernando Beach. The cost is $15 per person with social hour beginning at 5 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and music and dancing until 9:30 p.m. Non members are invited and reservations are required by Sunday by calling (352) 596-8767 or (352) 597-2535. The club also has dinners every Wednesday (reservation also due the Sunday before the event). You do not have to own a boat to be a member.
