On 06-30-16 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Marine Deputy Steve Kelly was called out to rescue a stranded vessel.
Deputy Kelly responded to the Gulf of Mexico, approximately three miles west of Bayport, to locate the vessel which was occupied by four adults.
The group had been scalloping all day. While on the way back in at approximately 6 p.m., they collided with a rock, disabling the motor and the vessel completely.
Marine vessels from other agencies were delayed by at least three to five hours. Realizing the urgency of the situation, Deputy Kelly responded and towed the boaters to the Bayport boat ramp before the storm arrived.
All went well and the boaters were extremely appreciative for the assist.
