Sheriff office announces captain promotion

BROOKSVILLE – Sheriff Al Nienhuis has promoted Lieutenant Curt Turney to the rank of captain.

Turney has worked for the agency for 18 years, and will oversee major case and vice and narcotics units in the Criminal Investigations Division.

The captain had previously served as a major case lieutenant and sergeant, as well as a major case detective and member of the SWAT and crisis response teams.

Turney holds a bachelor of arts in criminal justice and master of science in criminal justice from St. Leo University.

He worked as a Zephyrhills police officer for two years before joining the sheriff’s office.

“Although Captain Turney has extensive experience here at the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, his greatest asset is his reputation. He is known as a person who will do the right thing even when it is hard and even when no one is looking. His experience and his reputation will serve him well as he moves into his new role as a member of my command staff,” Sheriff Al Nienhuis said in a press release.
